OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

African Leadership’s network is drawn from every expression of Christian faith and from the community at large. In order that what we believe is commonly and clearly understood, African Leadership has adopted the ancient, historic, orthodox Apostle’s Creed as a confession of Christian faith that: draws its truth from a high view of Holy Scripture; remains relevant and theologically acceptable to all Christian denominations; and is concise framework for understanding Christian faith and mission by the community.

Collectively, we affirm the following creed:

THE APOSTLE’S CREED*

“I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian** Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.”

 * The affirmations in the Apostle’s Creed are drawn from an orthodox understanding of and connote a reliance on the authority of The Holy Bible.

** ”Christian” replaces the term “catholic” in the original in an attempt to most broadly identity the worldwide church in all times and all places in every orthodox expression.
