Faith, Vision, and Legacy in Sierra Leone

An interview with Jonathan Titus Williams

Q: In your opinion, what makes a great leader?
A: A great leader is someone who fears God, has a clear vision, and empowers others to rise and take on leadership after them.

Q: Tell us something special about Sierra Leone. Why is it important to invest in leaders there?
A: Sierra Leone is a small West African country of about 7 million people. Our national motto is Unity, Freedom, Justice. Despite going through an 11-year brutal civil war, Sierra Leoneans radiate joy, warmth, and hope. Our people are incredibly friendly and known for their religious tolerance -60% of the population is Muslim, 30% Christian, and 10% hold indigenous beliefs.

We are blessed with rich culture (16 ethnic groups), beautiful beaches, rainforests, wildlife like the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and natural resources such as diamonds, gold, and bauxite.
It’s important to invest in leaders here, especially church leaders in rural areas, many of whom haven’t had the opportunity to attend formal Bible school. Equipping them with training is vital for effective ministry and church growth.

Q: What’s something you’re excited about for African Leadership in Sierra Leone this year?
A: I’m especially excited that this year we received support from African Leadership U.S. to successfully conduct a teacher development workshop. It’s something we’ve been praying for over the past two years, and to see it happen is a major answer to prayer.

Q: Tell us your name, your role, and where you’re based.
A: My name is Jonathan Titus-Williams. I serve as the National Director for African Leadership in Sierra Leone.

Q: Can you share a little about yourself? What do you enjoy and what are you passionate about?
A: I enjoy working for God through teaching and preaching. I also love sports and traveling to discover new places. My greatest passion is to train and develop leaders who will become champions for God in our generation.

Q: Why is leadership important to you?
A: Leadership is essential because both the Church and the nation need strong, visionary leaders to create lasting impact—both for God’s Kingdom and for sustainable national development.
