Peter Ochiel, the founder of ACTION Ministry, was born in 1980 in a village in Western Kenya, where he faced severe poverty. His parents struggled to provide for their family, making it challenging to secure his education. Despite these obstacles, Ochiel completed primary school and earned a spot at a prestigious provincial secondary school, but financial constraints forced him to lose that opportunity. Miraculously, with the support of his community and church members, who contributed funds and supplies, he was able to attend an alternative village secondary school located five kilometers from home, although he had to walk ten kilometers daily. His high school years were fraught with difficulties, marked by frequent absences due to the inability to pay fees or acquire necessary learning materials. Nonetheless, the unwavering support from his parents and community fueled his determination, allowing him to persevere and ultimately complete his education.

These challenges shaped Ochiel’s vision to create positive change in his community. After high school, he initially found work in a small restaurant in Busia to support his younger siblings and aging parents. His involvement with a local church that served orphans, widows, and street children ignited his passion for social work. In 2002, when he moved to Mombasa, he was struck by the stark contrast between wealth and poverty in the city, which deepened his compassion and resolve to take action. This led him to establish ACTION Ministry in 2004, an organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel and providing support to orphans, widows, and those living in slums. Through his ministry, Ochiel aims to break the cycle of poverty and bring hope to those in desperate need, reflecting the love and generosity he once received from his community.

Our educational programs provide quality education for orphans & children from poor families. We also have children from the community sponsored in neighbouring elementary schools, high schools, and schools for children with special needs e.g. schools for the deaf and mentally challenged.

THE ACTION SCHOOL:

The Action School provides quality education to orphaned and poor children from the community. Apart from their education, the children receive meals, healthcare services at the Action Clinic, and individual attention from our staff. The school currently has children from Pre-School, Kg1, Kg2, and Kg3 and has a population of 75 children.

EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS:

Children with special needs receive sponsorships to attend special schools. Currently we have one girl in a school for the deaf, and a boy in the school for the mentally handicapped.

SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME & HIGHER EDUCATION:

We currently have 19 children sponsored in a private primary school. Most of them are children whose parents have suffered from leprosy, are orphans, or have come from slums.

Three students are currently receiving secondary education through sponsorship by ACTION MINISTRY.

*In addition to the above, ACTION MINISTRY supports many other children who are in primary school by provision of school fees, books, uniforms, etc.
