HEKO, the Heritage Kenya Organization, is a ministry in the Kibera slum of Nairobi. HEKO ministers to people living with HIV/AIDS with the goal of improving their health and nutritional status -- and ultimately their quality of life – as well as diminishing the stigma attached to the disease. Founder and Director Peter Odero organizes nutrition education sessions, counseling sessions, food supplements, and skills training for those in the program.

HEKO also works with the families of these individuals through sports and recreation preventative programs and support groups for those receiving antiretroviral treatments, both of which offer critical support and encouragement to a group too often stigmatized by their own society.
